Minnesota Dragonfly

Dragonfly Identification

Darner (Aeshnidae):

Darners with patterns on the side of their thorax can fit into a number of different Genera. Swamp Darners, from the genus Epiaeschna, are the only Darner in this region that have a ringed abdomen. Neotropical Darners, from the genus Rhionaeschna, have bright sky blue eyes, pale patches on the sides of the 'T' spot on the top of the frons, and a small bump on the bottom of abdominal segment one . All others can be identified primarily by their thoracic pattern.
