Minnesota Dragonfly

Dragonfly Identification

All dragonflies are members of the order Odonata. The order Odonata is broken into two suborders.

Zygoptera, which roughly means same wing, is comprised of the damselflies, which are typically slighter, and

Annisoptera, which roughly means different wings, is comprised of the dragonflies, which are typically stockier.

To determine the suborder it is necessary to examine the wings. Are the front and back wing approximately the same size and shape?
